  • I am a fan for life.*SPOILERS*

    By The Lady Pirate9/1/2009 17:53:55

I scoffed at this series at first. I'm a die-hard anime fan and I'm wary of american cartoons that look vaguely anime-esque because nine times out of ten they end up being huge disappointments. When the second season started showing on Nick my nephew wanted to watch it while I was babysitting, so I sighed and turned it on. I was immediately enthralled. It was cute, it was quirky, it had heart and charm and depth and likeable characters who did things for complicated reasons. And giant flying animals. And MAJICKS!! The last episode *spoilers* kiss between Aang and Katara seemed a bit forced, but otherwise it was a very satisfying series finale. It did however leave an opening for a possible follow up. For example, where DID Ozai exile Zuuko's mom to? And how will the world deal with the suddenly peaceful Fire nation? I doubt all the people in the Earth and Water nations could just say 'Oh okay, you oppressed and killed us for the last 100 years but you're better now so we'll just let bygones be bygones and all that.' I'm sure there'll be turmoil. And what about the Air benders? Aang's gonna have to work at (read, have many children and hope they end up with bending abilities) resurrecting the Air nation. Otherwise the next time the Avatar cycle goes to the Air it'll be broken.

Anypickle, it's a really good series, fun for all ages, with a bit of everything for everyone. I want the box set....

  • Incredible

    By amamahi8/26/2009 09:07:56

I watched it with my nephew and niece, and this anime by american creators sucked me and my wife in so badly that we were extremely bummed that it was over so quick ( because we couldnt pace ourselves and had to keep watching episode after episode). It started out fun and became very deep with very well done character development that was emotionally moving. Sadlerfan1 review is a waste of space, this is probably one of the top 10 shows on TV, it being close to number 1 on my list.
BTW i compared the user ratings on itunes.
heres a few shows i like. LOST, Heroes, and battlestar G for a short list.
LOST, which was supposed to be the number 1 show for a while had 419 reviews and an average rating of 4.5 stars by 574 people.
Battlestar had 107 reviews and an average rating of 5 stars by 218 people.
Heroes had 1700 reviews and an average of 4.5 stars by 1800 people.
The Avatar had 1141 reviews and an average of 5 stars by 1567 people making it almost on par with Heroes but also having a higher star rating. I didnt believe that the avatar was hugely popular with adults until saw that. I hope M Night doesnt screw up the movie......Now i'm a dork

  • Great Potential - Wasted.

    By Sadlerfan16/13/2009 14:35:10

This series had the potential to surpass anything Nick has ever done.  Safe to say though they screwed up BIG time here.

Most of the first season was filled with filler episodes and epically awkward moments made even creepier by the main character to the secondary character (respectively 12 years old the former [in body age] and 14 the later [at the time]).  All of the characters of this season made you wish you pulled the trigger with the gun in your mouth, or at your television screen.  The last three episodes might be worth it if you just want the action but for cohesion, without frustration, I'd suggest 12 through 20 skipping episodes 14 and 15.

Most of the second season was awesome.  The only thing wrong about it was the three month vacations these producers seemed to need, every 6-9 episodes.  Other than that 4-20 are awesome.  You might want to add 1 too if you want the semi-backstory to the Avatar.  The characters are way more likable this season explained by the adding of a fourth group member, therefore limiting the awkwardness and skyrocketing the awesomeness of Toph the blind earth-bender.

Season three was halfway there but completely failed in three filler episodes because of the scum that is the 1-and-half-hour special 4-part episode.  I guess I'm joking a little bit because for about an hour and most of the fight scenes, the finale was awesome.  But, everything became meaningless when the 14 year old finally realizes her true love is the 12 years old avatar.  This literally made me puke and swear to never watch the series again.

I'm pretty sure this was not the intended ending, and was forced upon them by the Nickelodeon producers.  Oh, and the bad guy in the end doesn't die, he gets put in jail after being defeated with a blue light silhouette of the avatar, taught to him by a giant island turtle stolen right out of The Legend of Zelda, only called a "Lion-Turtle".  I wish I made this crap up.
