H.R. 45 is officially dead in my book so please stop sending all the scary e-mails out to everyone about the end is coming to your gun rights. We need to start focusing on things that are real right now instead of a proposed bill that has not been acted on since February and has absolutely no cosigners. It’s Dead!

I have been a teacher for over 30 years. Whenever I read about an educator having inappropriate contact with a minor, I feel that I and all in my profession have been soiled by association. The entire profession was cheapened by the actions of a pervert.
As a firearms owner, NRA member and champion of our Second Amendment rights, I felt exactly the same upon reading about the actions of the man identified only as “Chris” during President Barack Obama’s speech at the Phoenix Convention Center on Monday.
This idiot has tarnished the image of every responsible firearms owner in Arizona. It will take years to rid ourselves of the stink of his “publicity stunt.”
I would like to assure people across the country, including the millions who do not choose to own firearms, that “Chris” and his ilk are no more representative of the people of Arizona than Tony Soprano is of the people of New Jersey. The vast majority of Arizonans are responsible, friendly people who feel embarrassed by “Chris’ ” actions. -- Joe Carter, Phoenix

Chris is probably not an NRA member. He is certainly disturbed.

I don’t believe a word in this letter. Why? Because of the last paragraph. If Joe was a real NRA Member and second Ammendment champion, he would not be calling himself and all others ” ilk “. BTW Joe, Tony Soprano is a fictional person on TV. NRA Members are not bothered by someone carrying a gun. Only anti 2nd Ammendment ILK opine like you do.

This ” NRA Member” needs to get over themselves and remember
that carrying a firearm does not make anyone a criminal
and they should not be suspect.
His statement was made and he upset the folks he wanted to upset.

You are obviously a nut job who wants to see our gun rights trampled on . A stupid publicity stunt like this can hurt our rights, and lead to more restrictive gun laws !

Funny how, at this point in time, you have received four tumbs down and only one thumbs up.
You sound like a Kennedy or a Brady. Calling anyone who appreciates our second ammendment rights -- a nut job.

What you know would probably fill a thimble…
I happen to own several military style rifles and shotguns. I have been an NRA member ever since I can remember.
I believe that the 2nd Amendment allows us the right to own a Sherman Tank if we want one…..
I just don’t want irresponsible nut jobs to further erode my gun rights !

I’m not so sure about your Toni Soprano to New Jersey analogy, Joe, but I’m afraid there are more people here in Arizona who are in fulll agreement with the rifle carrying ‘patriot’ than you may think. I bet we’ll be hearing from them shortly..
Still I wish to thank you for your concern and disgust of the symbolism he was employing.

Or is it it of sight out of mind??

yes I am. If I can’t wear a peace button at a Bush rally, why do you insist that Obama is a dictator when they allow a show of arms at one of his rallies? We have more liberty under Obama than under Bush. It it were a Bush rally, “Chris” would have been 3 miles away at a “Free Speech Zone”. Before Bush, the whole nation was free speech zone. Under Bush only a small area was a free speech zone.

On what do you base you statement, wendell? Is that the ultimate statement? “Liar Liar pants on fire”? Were you the little Bush penguin who called johnny law when I wouldn’t move? Are you the little creep that consciously violated my rights in order to tamp down free speech? If so, I’d like to talk.

KickedOffAgain, “Were you the little Bush penguin who called johnny law when I wouldn’t move”? What are you talking about? Before you said you had trouble just because of a peace button. It would seem there is more to the story then you have been sharing with everyone.

canoc,
I was told to leave a Bush rally at the Ballpark because I was wearing a peace button. When I wouldn’t leave, the little Bush penguin brought the police over to tell me to leave. Sad story but true. The European family ahead of me in line were astounded and the poor woman thought she had to remove a jewelry pin.
I was a ticketed Republican guest and was told to leave because of a point of view not liked by the Bush administration. These gun toting patriots wouldn’t know a true fight if it hit them in the face.

So what’s up with all this focus on Chris? What about the white dude in New Hampshire that did the same thing? I haven’t seen near as much moaning and and gnashing of teeth over that one! Wouldn’t you say that to focus all the outrage on the man of color with a gun certainly sends a worse message then Chris did.
Two people made two statements in peaceful, abiding manner while carrying firearms. Perhaps for publicity, perhaps not. Either way we are only talking about two people and everyone, on both sides of the issue, needs to pull their underwear out of their cracks and get on with life.

If I lived in New Hampshire, then I’d be talking about the guy in New Hampshire. I live in Arizona, so the guy in Arizona is the one who is reflective of my home state and the one who is more in the local news.

Please accept my apologies for such a long delay for this episode to come out. I have been having some technical problems with the computer I use to record and edit my podcast and just before I went back to work after being laid off I had some plumbing problems around the house that kept me from getting the episode helped.
This is though the second attempt at recording this episode. The first I felt I was a little too angry in the episode to release it. Some of things I was reading about the woman who left her gun in her purse and then tried to enter the courthouse just really irritated me and I decided not to release the angry episode.

I still have the website domain http://nrapodcast.com that I will probably use to help explain to new listeners how to subscribe to their podcast.
Over last couple of days I have listened to about 9 hours of the NRA podcast and I’m enjoying it quite a bit, because now I do not have to stay up till midnight to hear the entire show. Hopefully all of you will find enough value in listening to the Gun Rights Radio Network and NRA’s new podcast and keep contributing to both.

Denied Rights – Episode #108

To Whom It May Concern:
CAN SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP ME?
This is a big issue to me and I need help fixing it ASAP, it has been way too long already. I have been trying to get it fixed for about a dozen years, to no avail. I have written & called numerous people & agencies. I have contacted several of you before & I am continuously given NO ANSWERS, given steps to resolves this, that leads to dead ends. I have spent many hours & several dollars doing every step that I have been advised to follow. Nothing! I have gotten nowhere.
I am being denied my 2nd Amendment rights! I have always been an avid shooter since childhood. At the age of 18, I joined the U.S. Army and was in charge of many weapons including various assault rifles, light machineguns, grenade launchers, anti-tank weapons & several other weapons during my almost 6-year tenure. I even achieved an expert marksmanship badge. I had a security clearance while I was in the military.
I currently receive jury notices & I have voted in major elections over the years. I am a fully disabled person of average stature that lives by myself in a neighborhood that is becoming increasingly worse (about ½ a mile from the county jail). I would be a fairly “easy” target for criminals. I would like to purchase a firearm for personal defense in my home, but I am denied by NICS.
When I was 16 years old; I was arrested in possession of what I called a firework, but it was deemed by the authorities; a “destructive device”. I was held in the juvenile hall for around 10 days. I went to court and was released to my uncle’s care and given probation until the age of 18. I NEVER violated the terms of my probations and was released from probation when I became 18. During the process of enlisting in the Army back in 1995/1996, I had to go down to the L.A. County Juvenile facility with the recruiter to have my record expunged, I was told that I would not be able to obtain a security clearance without first doing that. That was the last I had heard of the issue for several years.
In 1999, I was had a NICS check performed while attempting to purchase a firearm in Fayetteville, NC. I went through the appeal process that I was given by the vendor in a pamphlet; I had to submit a fingerprint card that I had to get completed at the military police station. I had to send in a processing fee to the FBI. After several letters and phone calls to the FBI; I was given a response that had told me that I needed to contact the originating department (L.A. County Juvenile Court). I did so immediately and NOTHING came of it, I did not even receive a response after sending 2 letters (checking the address after the first one to make sure I had sent the first letter to the correct address).
I had gotten caught up with other things in my life and did not further pursue it. On August 29, 2004 I suffered a brain aneurysm that resulted in me spending a few months in the hospital, fighting for my life. After my aneurysm, I was left disabled & living with my father. I knew that before long, I would be living on my own; so, again I tried to resolve the whole “not being allowed to buy a gun” issue. I contacted the L.A. Juvenile Court again (multiple times). I was sent paper work to fill out that was just about identical to the paperwork I had to fill out when joining the Army. Talking with them on the phone led to several very heated conversations, as they are absolutely clueless and do not respect the right guaranteed to U.S. Citizen’s at all! I once again filled out the paperwork as best as I could and sent it in. NOTHING! I have been busy the last few years with school (which I got on the Dean’s List & won a scholarship for my good grades) & physical rehabilitation.
The area in which I reside has been getting worse and once again I began trying to resolve this. NICS finally reluctantly admitted that the hold up was with L.A. County Juvenile Court. Once again, I called them. At first I was given the run around & then spoke with a lady that told me that I was given a court date in 2006 and since I did not show up, it was denied. It told her that I had never received notice of the court date- she basically called me a liar by saying that I was incorrect; one WAS sent. I knew that the conversation would soon go sour, this is a VERY important issue and I would NOT overlook a letter with news of a chance at FINALLY clearing this up so I just asked what I needed to do to fix this? She said she would mail me the paperwork to have my records sealed.
I received the paperwork from L.A. County Juvenile court today. It is the same form I have filled out twice before. It has a place to list the charges, dates & disposition. The charges were given to me almost 15 years ago; I do not have that information any longer! How was I even in the military & given a security clearance if this was not cleared up already? Also, I noticed that the court hearing was to be held at the Eastlake courthouse in downtown L.A. I AM FULLY DISABLED; THE STATE TOOK MY DRIVER’S LICENSE, MY FAMILY AND FRIEND’S WORK- HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET THERE? So, I asked if my case could be heard out here in Ventura County.
That was months ago and I have not heard any response. It seems like I keep hitting brick walls. As anti-gun as most people in California are becoming; it seems as though this issue is not important to anyone but me. The media will have a hay-day with this if my house gets robbed & I am injured or killed and it comes into light that the very government that I gave up so much to defend is denying me the right to protect myself from such an event.
I am corresponding with Congressman Elton Gallegly’s staff, but I have been doing so for several months and keep getting no results, they cannot even tell me WHY I am being denied!
Please help me with this issue! I do not know where to go from here to have this corrected! Thank you in advance for your efforts!
Respectfully,
Larry Charles. Carlin

Get In The Game – Episode #105
12/4/2008
We can afford to have any gun rights activist sitting on the sidelines. In the coming months and years we need to make sure that every gun rights activists is in the game and playing hard. Hopefully I was able to help motivate and inspire some if not all of you to get off the bench and get in the game. It’s not a game that we can afford to lose to hope to come back and win another day. This games for keeps, and you need to do everything you can do every single day until victory.

The outcome of this election was not a mandate to take away your second amendment rights. There were a lot of issues other than gun rights that moved the country towards Obama.
We have the opportunity now to increase our memberships in gun rights organizations that will work on our behalf to protect our second amendment rights under this new administration. Please don’t be discouraged all is not lost.

Obama Wins, What Next! – Episode…
10/18/2008
Not for anyone to give up hope yet. What happens if Obama wins the presidency? It is a real possibility in this political climate that someone so extremely left of center could win by a large margin.
I think it’s time to start discussing the reality of this and to make plans to combat the anti-rights movement before they get started.
I personally believe that Obama could be much worse than President Clinton ever was. He will have control over two branches of government with majorities that could easily push through far left leaning judges that would allow them control of the third branch quite easily. This is something that President Clinton did not have.
Do you think that the Obama administration would start right off trying to restrict rights? Or do you believe that they will lay low for a while and strike when it’s more convenient for them?
What do you think the first anti-gun law will be passed under a Obama administration?
Scary gun ban
One gun a month
Magazine Ban
Limiting license to carry
Restricting manufacturing
Eliminating black rifles
or am I missing something, maybe something else we haven’t thought of yet.
Let me know what you think.

I recently came across a podcast that does reviews of other podcasts. I thought what an excellent idea someplace where you can kind of get some feedback and maybe some new podcasts you’d like to listen to. And then I found out that they actually did a review of this podcast. They mixed up myself and Matt Caron but that was all right I understood who they were talking about. If you would like to listen to their review of the podcast or any other reviews they may have. I will provide the link below. The following letter was written by Jim and Margie
2nd Amendment Patriots
STAY UNITED
www.2ndamendmentpatriots.org
——————————-
This letter is for everyone who’s had it up to their eyebrows of being treated like third world gangsters because they are upstanding citizens with a handgun license.
I just got two calls from Indiana State Rep. Jackie Walorski about the city council of Mishawaka, Indiana preparing to implement a gun ban from city buildings. They’re using the South Bend attempted ordinance.
Mishawaka Mayor Jeff Rea, (phone 574-258-1601) just told Jackie that if opponents want a fight, a fight they’ll get. Well Mayor Rea I will do all I can to accommodate you. CALL HIM TODAY, TOMORROW, AND THE NEXT DAY.
He’s a Republican mayor who has teamed up with the Democrat council to rub this in our nose. He said he’s tired of people trying to tell him how to run “his” city.
Well Mayor Rea, I’ll bet you never turn down any federal or state funds that comes with strings that will make you dance like a marionette. How about it Mayor Rea, do you tell the feds and state money people you don’t want someone telling you how to run your city?
His claim is that they had a couple of people with a handgun license come into the city office building and made some remarks that they had a gun. Supposedly, they’ve intimated some of the workers there.
Well, instead of dealing with those idiots the mayor and city council displaying their equal level of idiocy are going to clamp down on the honest law abiding citizens.
Kind of like the teacher who punishes the whole class for the one disruptive student. I guess in Mishawaka if someone runs a red light in town everyone who has a drivers license gets a ticket, too. The second call to make is to the city attorney Cory Hemmil, (574-258-1702). He’s behind this hot and heavy, too.
This coming Monday will be the second reading of this governmental attack on the Constitution in Mishawaka.
I’m hoping that since the story by Jeff Knox in ShotGun News about what South Bend tried and is now national news because of that publications circulation we can put Mishawaka on the map.
I want the name Mishawaka, Indiana to be on the same roll call as Chicago, D.C. San Francisco, New York and all the rest of the cities that don’t recognize the Constitution.
Since this is a Republican mayor, I’d hope that the Republican party can tap this turncoat on the shoulder and explain to him why Republicans are taking a hit at the polls.
If we want gun control Democrats for mayors, we’ll vote for a Democrat. Now come on everyone make those calls. I don’t care where you live. I don’t care what state you live in. I want Mishawaka, Indiana and their mayor, city attorney and council members center stage.
If you practice your Constitutional right to keep and bear arms don’t go to northern Indiana. Take you tourist money somewhere else. They don’t like you….we don’t like them!!
CALL ‘EM Then write and tell me you CALLED ‘EM. Rep. Jackie Walorski needs our help. Thanks,

There are plenty of opportunities out there to get involved in the political process. Helping to protect your rights under the Second Amendment is probably one of the most important political process you can get involved in. The interview that I conducted with Glen Caroline, Director, NRA-ILA Grassroots Division for this episode will help you find the ways you can get involved in this year’s presidential and congressional elections. It is very important but if you have considered being politically active in the past that you do so this year.
Most of this political activity is not very glamorous but it is all very important and I have been out there working very hard in the past and are planning to do as much this year as I have in the past.

Remembering Charlton Heston – …
4/8/2008
This was recorded from Cam & Co. on April 7, 2008. Because NRA News does not produce a podcast of their shows, I personally thought it was very important for as many people to listen to this episode to help remember of the man that helped inspire so many people to join and get involved in the NRA. Personally he did help inspire me to do everything that I have been doing and I still have one of the bumper stickers that says “My President is Charlton Heston“.
If you would like to keep his memory alive, one of his goals was to make the NRA the largest and most powerful organization that is protecting our Second Amendment rights. Please consider signing up every family member in your house along with your friends. Help make Charlton Heston’s dream become a reality. Right now with approximately 4 million members I know that if everybody joined up the few people we could easily hit 6 or 8 million by the end of the year.
Look to the right hand column you’ll see a join the NRA logo if you use this logo to join the NRA you will save $10 on every membership. Also there is a membership available that does not include a magazine for $10. Please help make his dream a reality and join up as many members as you can. Also the real important thing would be joining up junior members, because they are the future.
Interview with David T. Hardy – Ep…
4/5/2008
In this episode of the podcast I interviewed David T. Hardy, attorney, author, blogger and producer. Mr. Hardy is someone that I have been looking forward to interviewing for quite awhile. I am a regular reader of Mr. Hardy’s blogs and anything else he does he has such a great insight and many years of work towards protecting our Second Amendment rights. It is a great pleasure and honor for me to interview Mr. Hardy and hopefully we will have some additional interviews with him in the future.
Please considering purchasing a copy of the video he produced “In search of the Second Amendment, A documentary” it is an excellent video that should be shared with old friends and family. And you should probably purchase a copy and donated to one of your local libraries.

Doc & Matt are the co-guest hosts in this episode. Also we have a voice mail talking about seeing someone do a straw purchase. Straw purchases are against federal law and if you ever see one yourself you should report it. Most of the time the only reason a person is doing a straw purchase is because it would be illegal for him to normally purchase a firearm on his own. So if you do not report it, makes the rest of us look like criminals.

Killing zones by Mark Cushman
Letter to the editor by Mark Cushman Poland, Maine:
What do the recent shootings at the Westroads Mall in Omaha, Neb., have in common with the Virginia Tech, Trolley Square and Columbine High School tragedies? They all occurred in gun-free zones.
When are we, as a society, going to realize that the only ones who are going to obey a “gun-free zone” sign are the law-abiding, not those intent on killing as many people as they can.
Currently, this country has more than 20,000 gun control laws, and a study by the Centers for Disease Control has concluded that not a single one of them has done anything to reduce crime. It is the gun-free zones that should be outlawed. Those supposed gun-free zones are nothing more than victim-rich killing zones where madmen can kill as many people as they choose, and the law-abiding can do nothing to protect themselves.
Forty-eight states allow some form of concealed-carry of firearms. Nebraska allows people to carry concealed handguns, but it allows property owners, such as the Westroads Mall, to post signs banning permit holders from legally carrying guns on their property. Maine schools, universities and certain restaurants are also gun-free zones.
Holders of concealed-carry permits have taken a firearms course, been fingerprinted and had mental and criminal background checks done. It is time to stop disarming the law-abiding, and ban all gun-free zones in Maine and elsewhere.

NEW Book:
Synopsis of
The Founders’ View of the Right to Bear Arms:
A Definitive History of the Second Amendment
by David E. Young
December 7, 2007
The Founders’ View is a concise history of the Second Amendment that traces
its terms and phrases to their earliest AMERICAN roots and authors. It
presents only the most relevant people, comments, places, and events for a
clear understanding of the Second Amendment from the Founders’ own
perspective.
The book begins with an examination of the American understanding of
“militia” and “well regulated militia” during the Colonial Era prior to
disagreements with Britain. The colonial militia usage is compared to
defensive measures in Pennsylvania because that colony never relied upon the
militia for defense as all the other colonies had by the 1750s. This
contrast along with later information emphasizes the almost universal
possession of arms by American families.
Next, the constitutional disagreements between Americans and the British
are examined. Violations of rights and the existing constitution as
understood by Americans were the most important events leading to resistance
by the colonists. The early origination in Massachusetts of three related
ideas is emphasized: 1) a well regualted militia of the free men as the
support of free government; 2) a standing army being destructive of liberty
and property; and 3) the civil constitution being dependent upon the
military obeying the civil power. These three concepts became slogans or
mottos of the Revolution as they spread across the colonies and were
incorporated in other contexts, most notably decarations of rights.
George Mason used the well regulated militia language early on in relation
to an all voluntary self-embodying militia association for defense against
government officials and troops. He later incorporates all three of the
above mentioned concepts into the first American Bill of Rights, that of
Virginia. All of the later states adopting bills of rights incorporated
Mason’s triad of related concepts, with some substituting the people’s right
to bear arms for the well regulated militia language. The clear historical
evidence that both forms related to an armed populace capable of defense
against unconstitutional acts of government executed by force is presensted
and documented.
The development of the proposed United States Constitution and rejection of
a bill of rights by the Federal Convention are next addressed. The
tremendous struggle to obtain a federal bill of rights based upon those of
the states during the Ratification Period is carefully examined. Opposing
arms related arguments relied upon by by the Federalists and the
Antifederalits are identified and their importance examined. George Mason’s
contributions to the bill of rights struggle are an essential part of the
development of the Second Amendment. It is he who wrote what became the
clear model for the United States Bill of Rights and the very first
two-clause predecessor of the Second Amendment. The clear evidence for this
and the fact that he based these directly on the state bills of rights is
presented and thoroughly documented.
David E. Young @ GRPC 2007
The details of the development of the ratifying convention predecessors of
the Second Amendment are closely examined, as well as the actions of James
Madison in taking them on to Congress after his election to that body. His
campaign promises are detailed and his actions carrying them out documented.
Congressional development of the Second Amendment’s language is examined
with emphasis on the clear understanding of those involved.
What results is incontrovertible evidence that both clauses of the Second
Amendment developed from language intended to protect an armed populace
against disarmament by government. The expansive and private rights nature
of the right to keep and bear arms is fully documented in The Founders’ View
of the Right to Bear Arms. The historical facts presented indicate that
American’s Second Amendment rights are more fundamental and much more
extensive than previously understood.
The Founders’ View contains two appendices. The first reprints Thomas
Jefferson’s authenticated Official Imprint of the Amendments proposed by
Congress and ratified by the states. The second appendix presents important
facts from a number of Colonial Era defensive laws indicating the general
outlines of who the militia were understood to be. This latter information
is essential because The Origin of the Second Amendment, which is the main
documentary source for The Founders’ View, covers mainly the Constitutional
Era.

Academics for the Second Amendment
Email———————————————————————–
Dear Mark,
In your 11-30 podcast you mentioned the need to support groups (with
our dollars) who were preparing friend of the court briefs in the Heller case.
Here is a group that deserves our support. It is called Academics for
the Second Amendment and is composed of law school professors,
history professors, etc. who believe that the Second Amendment
preserves an individual right to keep and bear arms. They are a
501(c)3 not-for-profit which means contributions made to them will be
tax deductible.
They are putting together a brief to be written by David Hardy and
Joseph Olson with historical research by Clayton Cramer. Go to their
website at http://academicssecondamendment.blogspot.com to see
exactly how they plan their brief.
This group had a friend of the court brief back in the Emerson case
in 1999. They are not some Johnny come lately’s to the Second
Amendment (unlike some Presidential candidates who shall go
nameless). The costs of putting together a brief like this runs into
the tens of thousands of dollars.
I hope you can mention this group in your next podcast as well as put
up a link on your website. I’ve given them a donation and will be
giving more in the next few weeks.
All the best,
John, Waynesville NC
Questions to ask candidates:
12/1/2007
Below is a list of questions, I think Federal and State candidates for office should be asked about our Second Amendment rights. I would be very interested in hearing any additional questions you think should be added to this list. To add to this list do so by adding a comment. And we will discuss this in an upcoming episode of the Podcast.
1. Do you oppose “one-gun-a-month” laws that limit purchases of firearms by law-abiding citizens?
2. Do you support preemption legislation that would totally prohibit localities from placing limitations on the rights of citizens to purchase, possess, or carry firearms?
3. Would you oppose legislation mandating “no-safety” zones designed to ban concealed carry or self-defense?
4. Would you oppose legislation requiring that firearms purchased by private citizens be registered with law enforcement and tracked by a centralized record system administered by government agencies?
5. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of semi-automatic firearms?
6. Do you oppose legislation banning the manufacture, sale or possession of large-capacity magazines?
7. Do you oppose laws that would take away the rights of 18-20 year-olds to possess a firearm?
8. Do you oppose laws that allow persons who are shot by a properly working firearm to sue firearms manufacturers and/or firearms sellers (strict liability)?
9. Do you oppose laws that would ban the sale of a privately owned firearm at a gun show unless the buyer submits to a background check?
10. Do you oppose government licensing to buy a gun?
11. Do you oppose computerized “instant” background check systems?
12. Do you oppose government mandated use of trigger locks or other locked storage requirements?
13. Would you oppose legislation that bans firearms ownership due to simple misdemeanors?
14. Would you support Vermont-style legislation that would eliminate all requirements to pay fees and register gun owners and simply allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms openly or concealed (at the individual’s discretion) for any reason except for the commission of a crime?
15. Do you oppose banning the private ownership of .50 caliber rifles?

The other day, I just received the Microsoft Zune media player (MP3, pictures, video, & FM receiver) that I ordered from newegg.com for $99.99. It is the first-generation player and it is brown, , but I am enjoying it very much. November 13 the second-generation Zune comes out and I have one on order also. If you’re looking for an inexpensive media player that holds 30 GB of media. You may want to consider buying the first-generation, because I understand that when the second generation player is released the new software will be available for the first-generation. This means you will get a lot of the new features minus any hardware changes. One thing that sounds pretty neat I understand is you will be able to transfer your media to your Zune using your WiFi.

Letter I sent to the South Bend Tribune:
Supporters of gun buyback programs often want to say that the endeavor is worthwhile that if they were to save just one child. But they also say they really no way of determining the success of the gun buyback programs.
I think I have a better way. Instead of a gun buyback program why don’t we and yes I mean we. Setup a program where we educate children about firearms. No I’m not talking about taking kids out to the shooting range. I’m talking about teaching children the dangers and affects of firearms. I personally believe that more children could be saved with education then by removing a couple hundred guns from our community.
And for people who would like to dispose of unwanted firearms you have two choices. You can take your firearm to a local dealer and receive cash for your firearm. Or if you would like to dispose of your firearm so that no one uses it again you can always call your local police department and ask them their procedure on how to turn in a firearm. They all allow it, all year long.
Letter I sent to the media after the Gun Buyback:
After the two shootings Monday night that were very near the area of a local gun buyback on Saturday. It seems to me very obvious that gun buybacks have no affect on crime. Because criminals will not be the ones turning in their firearms, they are the tools of their trade. As a somewhat expert on firearms the only thing I seen from the pictures on TV of the firearms that were turned in on Saturday were old and junk firearms that legal firearms owners turned in to take advantage of getting some cash for mostly useless and worthless firearms.
Purchasing these firearms will have no fact on the fact that drug dealers, gang bangers and other violent citizens in our neighborhoods. They will continue to be violent as long as we look the other way and do useless things like gun buybacks.

Gary is a guy behind all the information for the site and his friend Steve Aikens does all the wonderful design for the site. Gary also informed me that he has designed a metal target that can be purchased at Mike Gibson Manufacturing. See links below:

Permit Followup Addendum:
So, I’m in a gun store with my Father in Law, looking at handguns,
because he’s thinking about getting another one. I wanted to show him
how the safety worked on Glocks, so I asked the clerk to show me one. He
asked to see my permit, and wouldn’t let me handle a gun without a
permit. Now, remember – I was not allowed to apply for a permit without
first having a receipt from a gun shop stating that I had put money down
on a handgun. Does anyone else notice the catch-22 here? How am I
supposed to pick a gun to buy in order to apply for a permit if I need a
permit to handle one?
Morons.

Firearms Wholesale Prices
7/2/2007
Below is a list of random firearms and wholesale prices from 1990 to 1994. The information came from invoices of firearms that I sold during the period of time I held a Federal Firearms License (FFL). I thought this might be interesting to some of you to see what some wholesale prices were.
I only charge $10.00 over wholesale for a long gun & $20.00 over wholesale for a handgun. Now you can see the damage of losing more than 100,000 FFL’s because of the Clinton administration in 1994.

Protection
Let me ask a question. Would you put a sign on your house that said, “This is a gun-free zone”? Of course you would not. But that is what we have done with our schools and universities.
Why do you think criminals choose to use our children as target practice? Because these gun-free zones are safe environments for the criminals. No criminal wants to be shot before he commits his outrageous deed. So he chooses the areas that are most safe for him. You don’t see mass shootings in police stations or gun shops.
We have to face it: We’re never going to stop the criminal element before the fact. It is all of our jobs to protect ourselves to the best of our ability. By allowing government to create these killing zones it is taking away your personal responsibility to protect yourself and your loved ones. You do not have to be a person who wants to own or carry a gun but because there are some of us out there who do you gain some extra security just because the criminal has no idea who may be there to stop them.

UPDATE:
This is an e-mail I received the day after posting Wednesday’s podcast. When I first read the subject of the email I thought to myself, all right you did it now people are unsubscribing.
Nice job Leith, you really caught my attention with your subject line. I’m just glad you did not send this on my birthday or you probably would have ruined my entire day by the subject line.
Subject: I have to stop listening to your show…
After listening to the NRA membership podcast I’ve been thinking that I may
have to stop listening to your show…
I just converted to an NRA life Membership
I purchased a membership for my Son (almost 5) at the same time.
Asked my Wife and I’m purchasing a membership for her after writing this.
I may even purchase a membership for my dog – Dax.
I enrolled, qualified, tested, and turn in my paperwork for a CFP (CCW)
license on Friday.
I think most of this is because I’m listening to your podcast – Keep up the
good work, you are motivating us!!
P.S. I really don’t intend to stop listening

Become an NRA member today or renew your membership and don’t forget to sign up everyone in your immediate family. Memberships are normally $35.00 a year but because I am an NRA recruiter I can offer you a special membership for $25.00 this should be an excellent time to take advantage of this great offer. You can also sign up family members for $10.00 a year which does not include a magazine but they will be included as an additional member. The junior membership is also excellent and includes a special insight magazine for $15.00 a year. Give the gift of freedom sign up someone today.
I gained nothing financially from the NRA for being a recruiter and I still have to pay my membership dues just like every other member so please also consider a donation to the podcast to help us purchase the portable digital recorder to do interviews on location for the podcast.

The idea for this podcast was suggested by Mark of Poland, Maine. Again this is not a normally scheduled podcast but I received some new equipment (headphone amplifier to better monitor sound quality) in the mail today that I am using for the podcast and started doing some tests with it and it sounded so good I decided to use it as a podcast.
Here is an update on how we are doing on donations for the digital voice recorder to be used for interviews on location. As of April 24, 2007 we have $96.00 donated for the portable digital recorder. We have a another $65.00 available from the google ads from the website. But we will not receive a check for those in ads until the account reaches $100. You may have noticed that the Brady Campaign is advertising on google, so some of the ads are showing up on the Gun Rights Advocates website. If you look to your left you may see an ad that says “Enough is Enough”. Please feel free to click on that ad so the Brady Campaign can help pay for our new portable digital recorder to activate more pro-gun advocates.
Would you be interested in a CD/DVD of all the podcast files to date along worth any PDF or associated files for future reference? For a donation of $20.00 or more I will make a custom CD/DVD for you. If there is enough interest I will be re-mastering the first episodes of the podcast to bring the quality up and put them in a more standard format.

NRA News Podcast – D.C. Gun Ban…
3/11/2007
This is not a normal podcast for me it is from the NRA News show Cam & Company for March 9, 2007. The NRA does not do a podcast of the Cam & Company show. It is only streamed over the Internet the day it was live and the day after and also on sirius satellite radio. I thought this episode was so important for gun rights advocates to hear that I recorded the entire show and have placed it here.
If you are a member of the NRA you may want to encourage them to do a podcast of the Cam & Company show. The nice thing about doing a podcast is that you could listen to the 3 hour show whenever you would like instead of staying up from 9 PM till midnight five nights a week to listen to such a good show.
I am not podcasting this with any permission from NRA. But I hope they recognize the importance of the show as to why it needs to be heard. I have left the show in its entirety commercials included with only a short introduction by me. This is a warning to those of you who are on slow Internet connections. This file is a 3 hour MP3 that is more than 60 MB in size. I would not recommend downloading this file if you’re on dialup. I hope you enjoy the show as much as I did and there may be hope yet for Washington, D.C.

New Orleans Gun Confiscation Video
10/16/2006
As I talked about in the past episode of the Gun Rights Advocates Podcast. The NRA was working on a video about the gun confiscations that were conducted in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina.
I just received an e-mail stating that the video is now available. They have set up a special web site for this video. I would suggest that every gun owner purchase a copy of this video to show to friends and family and to other fellow gun owners.
This is a very powerful video that shows that gun confiscation can happen in the United States. This is something that every freedom loving American needs to be aware of.
Just remember, if the gun haters of our country win in the election this November this could become common.
Just remember, It’s not about guns, It’s about freedom.
Here’s a link to the web site. It also has some clips of the video available on the web site.

Wayne LaPierre from the National Rifle Association now has a Podcast and video Podcast. This is something I’ve been asking from the NRA for quite a long time. Now I only wish that they would Podcast NRA News. But this is a first step hopefully they will start doing more and more Podcast’s. I would even like them to do their legislative updates via a Podcast. If you like Wayne’s Podcast, please let them know.

Gun rights
YOUR OPINION
By MARK VANDERBERG
The Tribune’s Sept. 8 editorial stated, “We support the Second Amendment.”
If the board truly supported the Second Amendment, it would not be calling for limiting the number of new guns that can be manufactured, imported and sold. You cannot be a supporter of the Second Amendment, and also call for restrictions on that right.
The truth of the matter is that criminals are the problem. Not guns. But it’s much easier to blame an object that has no free will and cannot shoot on its own. The slogan that is seen on many bumper stickers, “People Kill People, not guns,” is so simple, but also very true.
The approach The Tribune is advocating reminds me of a cartoon I saw years ago, where a police officer found an armed burglar breaking into a house so the officer handcuffed the handgun and said, “Come on, you, you’re going to jail.”
The Tribune should be advocating mandatory life sentences for any criminal convicted of using a gun in the commission of a felony. And stop allowing these judges to release these violent offenders back on the streets.
I am the host of Gun Rights Advocates Podcast (http://gunrights.us).

Both ad campaigns were very good idea, and I encourage everyone to download the ads below and play them for friends and family or a place of business. Or possibly at a gun show, or get donations to have them played on the radio in your local market.

I think that Cam Edwards does an excellent job on NRA News. I’m able to listen to the show on my [tag]Sirius[/tag] satellite radio or on the Internet @ NRANEWS.com. The one place I would really like to listen to the show I cannot because they do not have a podcast so I have know way of listening to the show on my MP3 player.
I think if there is enough listeners out there that would like to see the show transfer to a podcast, I think they will do it. If you’re interested in listening to the NRA News with Cam Edwards on an MP3 player. Please e-mail him and let him know.

Indiana Handgun License – Episode…
7/1/2006
In this episode, I discuss the procedure I had to go through to renew my Indiana handgun license (Indiana Code: 35-47-2). Indiana has one of the oldest laws that issue licenses to its citizens for the carrying of handguns concealed or not. 1 in 15 Indiana residents, has a license to carry a handgun, which must be 26 inches or shorter in overall length.Indiana Application for Handgun License (PDF Format)

UPDATE: I received an e-mail from a member (Ron) of the 2nd Amendment Patriots who said his group was involved in writing HB 1176. The group is very thankful to Rep Troy Woodruff and Sen Johnny Nugents in their efforts to get this bill passed.
I personally would like to thank all members of the 2nd Amendment Patriots for the great grassroots efforts they have made. And they should be a model to how effective a grassroot movement can be.
I would also like to thank Rep Troy Woodruff and Sen Johnny Nugents along with Governor Mitch Daniels for signing it into law.

Ways you can support the [tag] Second Amendment [/tag].
Talk to your friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and innocent bystanders. Remember you’re defending our liberty, our freedom, the Constitution and the basic human right to self-defense. If that offends some people, too bad.
Get politically involved. Many gun owners would rather not get involved in politics, but it is the politicians that are making the decisions about your constitutional rights. If every gun owner in your district were to help out a few pro-gun politician’s one or two hours a week during election time, would make a huge difference in the outcome of their elections.
Find positive, Pro-gun stories on the Internet and post them on public bulletin boards around your city or town, and give them to friends and coworkers.
Go shooting and take someone with you who is open-minded, and not currently a gun owner. Someone you could educate on firearms safety, while at the range and also educate on the importance of the Second Amendment and why is important. One of the best ways you can support your rights is by exercising them. Also use Pro-Second Amendment businesses to purchase your equipment. That will also help those businesses stay in business in your community.
Become a firearms instructor or [tag]firearms[/tag] safety instructor. Male and female instructors are needed, and most every community. Female instructors are even in higher demand, because sometimes women are intimidated with male instructors. So if you are a instructor. Please encourage your wife or daughter or other female friends to consider becoming a [tag]firearm instructor[/tag].
Educate yourself. Familiarize yourself with statistics, proposed bills and new laws. Think of logical and emotionally sound responses to the gun haters. When responding to there rhetoric. A good source of facts is on everything about Second Amendment issues would be Guy Smith’s web site. http://gunfacts.info
Write letters to your local newspaper editor. Many newspapers are more than happy to demonize gun owners. But with thought out intelligent arguments from a gun owner, they will publish it.
Call or write companies, who has taken a stand against the Second Amendment. Let them know how you feel about their position, and if they continue. You will not patronize their businesses.
Seek out other gun owners in your community, who have the passion to protect our Second Amendment rights, and consider putting together your own Second Amendment advocates group.
Do something. If you really love this country, if you cherish your freedom. You must act to support the Second Amendment. If everyone was to do something. They would not be a battle we could not win.
