  • Join us on a two day adventure with Dennis and Susan Swiderski, owners of Orca Island Cabins. We journey to their private island located in Humpy Cove, which is a 40 minute boat ride from Seward out into Resurrection Bay. The scenery is epic and the time spent in the kayak was exhilarating. I've traveled the lengths of Resurrection Bay many times in my life, but this adventure has changed my connection with the area significantly. I've always loved Alaska's coastal wilderness, habitats, wildlife, and sea life! The trip out with Susan and Dennis to their island, and the experience they offer, have yielded memories that will last me a lifetime. It is truly an opportunity to get up close with this part of Alaska, and even better it's right here in our backyard! Enjoy the show! It’s early in May and we’re heading out for a light hike (or a walk in the park) around Anchorage’s Campbell Tract. • Alaska Podshow HD This had to be one of the best adventures I’ve taken, and Juneau is an incredible place. Since 1906 this has been the Capital of Alaska, so the history and culture is rich in Juneau – Sharing this part of Alaska was tops when Governor Sarah Palin joined us on a short hike up to her office in the capital! See back in 1880 two guys Joe Juneau and Dick Harris were led by a Tlingit chief named Kowee to local gold reserves at Snow Slide Gulch. Juneau would never be the same as stampedes of miners soon led to the formation of a mining camp. In 1906, this camp had grown and evolved into a district government and capital of Alaska. A little known fact is that Juneau was first named Harrisburg after Dick Harris, but Joe Juneau - as a result of some very effective political arm-twisting at a miners’ meeting in 1881 - won forever the name of Alaska’s capital city. So many today have mixed opinions about Juneau. Some complain because the rainfall averages some 50+ inches each year, but that’s typical for southeast Alaska! It’s the history, people, and adventures that are accessible in and around Juneau that make it one of my top spots. In my opinion and in few words – Juneau is not to be missed. Go! • Welcome to Alaska Podshow's Hike of the Week Bear Mountain!  Bear Mountain offers scenic views, while also offering a quick elevation gain. This hike is a bit strenuous in parts, and you'll want to be sure the trail has been free of rain, or ice as melting makes these steep slopes a challenge.  The views from the top are priceless, and if possible bring a tent and explore for a day or two!  In the fall season you'll also have the opportunity to see both Moose, Sheep, as well be aware of Bears. There are a few other late in the season perks on this hike, but we locals prefer you keep it to yourself once you make the discovery.
