Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Michael Mann directs this adaptation of Brian Burrough's best-seller about famed government agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) and his attempt to stop John Dillinger (Academy Award-nominee Johnny Depp) and his gang. The 1930s-set drama depicts a lawless time in American history that made a stable of gangsters, of whom Dillinger was most notorious, front page celebrities. Efforts to thwart the high profile criminals led to the formation of what is now known as the FBI. The all-star cast also includes Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard, Billy Crudup, Channing Tatum, and Lili Taylor.

Johnny Depp is what makes public enemies so good for me. Christian Bale doesn't compare (at least, not in this movie) but manages to hold his own. Public Enemies offers exciting, if sometimes confusing action, somewhat interesting romance and good character development with John Dillinger (Played by Johnny Depp) but the same can't be said with the FBI agent, Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) and makes it so that you don't get that tension in the action between the characters that you should get from a movie like this. Because it would be a great movie if it fixed these problems. At least, in my opinion it would.
