Old enough to have seen the Allman Brothers perform live in 1976, but young enough to still, average, a concert a week.
I believe music can be a conduit for starting discussions between people of different backgrounds; Music breaks down barriers.Tell them who you really are. They want to know your musical taste too!
Yeah, I love Rourke too. I was never sure how much of the Smiths bass songwriting was him vs. Marr - but I have to assume it was him. Plus the Moz tracks Rourke played on are great too!
WRT Freebass - throw Mani in there too. I didn't get into the Roses the first time around. I just discovered them recently; but he's great too. I couldn't have picked a better 3 for Freebass. But they need to release something.
Regarding Peter Hook, the only other project I heard he is involved with is the previously mentioned Freebass. I too am excited for that one considering it will include Andy Rourke from the Smiths, one of my all time favorites. For me, my attraction to the Smiths was never about Morrisey, but about Johnny Marr's incredible guitar, and Andy Rourke's counter melody on bass.
"Confessions of a Pop Group" is an underrated album. Of course, Jam fans think it is pure crap, but for me, it added a bit of sophistication to what I had previously listened to, and got me started listening to more Jazz. The track Confessions 1,2, and 3 is my favorite.
Confessions of a Pop Group! I haven't thought of that Style Council album in years. The year it came out, I spent the summer with my grandparents in Maine. Sitting in their living room with my Walkman looking out at the waves listening to "The Gardener of Eden" and "Little Boy in a Castle"....
