      • WELCOME TO THE WINNERS CIRCLE FOR THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER 09 (Because we all are wiiners) HELLO TO ALL ZUNE MEMBERS AND WINNER CIRCLE MONTHLY READERS. NAMASTE. THANK-YOU YOU ALL FOR GRACIOUS COMMENTS, AND SUPPORT FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. A SHOUT OUT TO THE NOVEMBER HAPPY HOLIDAYS LIKE ALL SAINTS DAY, ALL SOULS DAY, REMEMBRANCE DAY, THANKSGIVING DAY AND THE ISLAMIC HOLIDAY EID AL ADHA, AND THE JEWISH HOLIDAYS, HANUKKAH / CHANUKAH. "Hope and the Environment" is the topic this month. Do you listen to people who say we have polluted our environment past the point of hope? I don't, and I'll tell you why. There are some doom and gloom environmentalists and others out there, who, for their own misguided reasons, would rob the rest of us of hope. I believe that a hopeless attitude is just as dangerous as anything we could do to pollute the environment. Hopelessness is like a lethal nerve gas - it prevents us from seeing the kind of world we want for our children and grandchildren, and then doing what we need to do to create it. Hopelessness will kill the dream of a healthy planet quicker than all the holes in the ozone layer and all the chemicals released into the atmosphere put together. To hope is not foolish. If you look for reasons to despair, you will find them. But if you choose, instead, to look for reasons to hope, you will find them also. Why not collect hopeful signs, like some folks collect stamps, coins or baseball cards? Then, when you hear people saying that it doesn't matter what we do, because it is too late to save the environment, tell them they are wrong. Prove it with examples from your collection. Yes, there is work to be done and we will find the tools to use. Each of us can make a difference - you can make a difference!

      • WELCOME TO THE WINNER CIRCLE FOR THE MONTH OF OCTOBER 09 (Because we all are winners) Bright moments to you and yours and the subject for this month is your comfort. I ask you; What have you gotten used to in your life, and why? It has been said that people can get used to almost anything. If it happens gradually over time and in small enough increments, I believe this is true. When you become used to things being a certain way, you develop what we call a comfort zone around them. When you're in your comfort zone, you don't really have to think too much about it. If you're used to cleaning up your house every day because you like things neat and tidy, it will put you out of your comfort zone to wake up in the morning and see a sink full of dirty dishes. Generally, you will make sure that doesn't happen. If, on the other hand, you get used to seeing a sink full of dirty dishes every morning when you get up, it won't bother you at all. Now, if you are expecting company, the things you've gotten used to and comfortable with may suddenly become very un-comfortable. "That's okay for me," you may think, "But I don't want my company to see it like that," and you go to work to clean up the mess. Do you know people who go on crash diets before a school reunion or other special events? It is the same sort of thing. Take a look at your life. Are there things you've gotten used to, bit by bit, that surprise you a little now? Don't just put on a facade for company. Aren't you worthy of the same consideration and the same high standards you display for others? Do it for yourself, because you deserve it

      • WORDS OF WISDOM SERIES FOR JANUARY 2009 If I were to say to you, "Old people are...." and then ask you to finish the sentence, how would you fill in the blank? Think about it for a moment. "Old people are...." What? Fragile? Senile? At death's door? What do you believe about old people? What if I said, "Old people are bright, energetic, active and interesting." You see, it's really impossible to generalize about so-called old people, any more than we can safely generalize about teenagers or 50-year-olds. Does aging have to mean a loss of significance? Do our older selves matter less than our younger selves? Much of the answer to these terribly important, but rarely-spoken, questions lies within our attitudes. If these attitudes define old age as a time marked by loss and decline, we are in for some real trouble. Besides, there are simply no data to support this negative conclusion. As Norman Cousins once said, "No one knows enough to be a pessimist." Aging, like most everything else, turns out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. You will get largely what you expect to get, what you believe, and what you think is likely for you. Pygmalion was not a casual insight of George Bernard Shaw. It was an observation of everyday dynamics. So if I ask you to complete the sentence, "When I am an old person..." what will you say? Do you expect the best for yourself? Do your actions support those expectations?

      • The original gift was that of creation and life given to us by our Creator. We should acknowledge that gift constantly. When one give a gift to another, the act requires forthought and consideration, regardless of how much or little. That is an act of genuine love, at some level. We should never minimize this, for that is the true gift, and for that, we should always honestly acknowledge our gratitued.

      • A special Words Of Wisdom For The December Holidays Okay, let's look at the art of accepting things from others. Everyone knows that it feels great to give, and most of us have learned that it's better to give than to receive. But there's a blessing to being able to receive gracefully too, and it's what I want to remind you of today. How does it feel to give a gift that is virtually ignored or, worse, received badly? Pretty awful, right? Children, especially, labor long and with great love to make special presents for their families. It can be crushing to see their best handiwork ignored or passed off with a comment like, "What's this supposed to be?" Some folks have trouble telling the white lies that sometimes seem necessary, in order to spare another's feelings. However, it's never necessary to lie. You don't have to say, "This is just what I've always wanted," if it's not true. But you can usually find something to compliment, and you can certainly acknowledge with pleasure, the thoughtfulness and effort the giver has shown without worrying about stretching the truth. You see, when you receive a gift graciously and with genuine gratitude, you are also giving something very precious at the same time you receive. As the saying goes, "It is a blessing to give and to receive." And, it is one of those rare occasions when you can have it both ways.
