biography

Vancouver, Canada's Theory of a Deadman became the first act to sign with Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger's 604 Records imprint in 2001. Tyler Connolly (vocals/guitar) reportedly slipped a copy of the band's demo to Kroeger at a post-concert party and the two were soon collaborating on songs together. One of these, "Invisible Man," was used as the B-side for 2002's wildly successful Spider-Man theme, "Hero" (a Kroeger collaboration with Saliva singer Josey Scott), and anticipated Theory of a Deadman's self-titled debut of the same year. Also featuring Dave Brenner (guitar), Dean Back (bass), and Tim Hart (drums), the album's hook-laden, emotional hard rock sounded very similar to their celebrity benefactor's band -- almost disturbingly so, actually. But a healthy touring workload and simple maturation ultimately helped Theory of a Deadman break out of that confining stylistic box for their more varied and distinctive sophomore effort, Gasoline, which was recorded with session drummer Robin Diaz. The trio later tapped veteran journeyman Brent Fitz (formerly of Union and Vince Neil's solo band) as their new permanent touring drummer. Theory of a Deadman returned to the studio in 2007 to record their third album, Scars and Souvenirs, which was produced by Howard Benson. The album was released in April 2008. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

      • This band is soooo bad. And it disgusts me that Soundgarden and Creed are in their similar artists list. There is one word that can summarize is band that word is........shit. Their lyrics are mindless, the music they write is shitty, mainstream bullshit at it finest. I can't wait to see this band go down in flames. I hope this band is dead so when I have kids they don't have know about this band. I rather slerp diarrhea oozing out of a warthogs anus then listen to these ass monkeys.

      • These guys are a joke, and their popularity proves the cliché that only stupid people are breading.  Bad Girlfriend was bad enough, how The Cult didn't sue them for ripping off the riff to Fire Woman is a mystery.  Plus the song is basically a somehow worse version of Crazy Bi*ch, I never thought you could make that song worse but they pulled it off.  Now the proof that they are the beginning of the end - I Hate My Life.  Are you serious?  We'll let the cheesy chord progression slide, but my 6 year old nephew could write better lyrics; "I hate people who can't drive their cars, get out of my way before I fall apart", now that's deep.  How these a** clowns got a record deal is mind boggling and it's scary to think that people actually like this rubbish.

And yes MartinToy, I can't spell, but I'll take my bad spelling over their trailer-park trash rock anyday.

      • Love their New Album! A really great band! Bought the cd and love every song. They have a great sound that you can listen to whenever. I love Bad Girlfriend, Hate My Life, Little Smirk, End of the Summer, etc. etc....The list goes on and on .I would definitely recommend it especially if ur a fan of Nickelback. Chad helped them out on a couple songs and i think u can hear some of his sound on the cd but they are still different. Give it a listen. You wont regret it:) PS love the comment MartinToy :)
