I met Gordon Downie outside the house of blues in New Orleans he was promoting his solo stuff. I love coke machine glow. I asked him to sign my Mc Gill University bag, he said he went to Qeen's in kingston. so he wrote "whatta school" obviously out of sarcasm. then he signed his solo albums for me, I think he had a liitle THC

The Hip

I wanted to Echo the thoughts of stratboy meow....as I remember seeing "The Hip" back in 1991 when I was 16 in concert for the first time. They were the last act of the night...and they utterly brought down the house...everyone was on there feet! Icons in Canada...which is probably why they never broke through in the US as Pearl Jam etc were goin full bore....the US's loss...and our Gain! I love the 50 Mission Cup cuz it's a true story! Rock on!

My Fave band of ALL TIME....

And I'm not even Canadian!
For me, TTH are tops on my list. The first time I heard New Orleans is Sinking on the radio, I said out loud to my coworker, "If I had a band, I would want it sound exactly like this." I was hooked.
I have to admit I don't care for anything after Phantom Power and didn't even bother to purchase anything after In Between Evolution....it just broke my Hip heart to hear how much they've changed.
I believe The Hip are still playing from the heart, and that's all you can ask for from an artist. "I'm pretty sure it's genuine..." Damn straight.
Now, back to my "Hip Era"....their Phantom Power and earlier albums have provided me with a lifetime of enjoyment. Great stories, imagery....and that incredible bluesy, bar band, straight ahead awesome Rock sound.
Yes, even though they have moved away from my taste, The Hip will always have my respect. Their early small club shows were even better than the stories that Hip Fans tell. Truely amazing. Search the bootlegs for the early live stuff. Mind blowing.
If TTH read this: Many, many thanks for all the rocking music. You've earned the right to play whatever the hell makes you happy. Rock on...fully, completely. We'll synch back up one day, I'm sure.
And thanks for signing my red stratocaster after that show in Ballard (Seattle). Gord wrote "nice tragicaster"....prized possession for sure.

Tragically Hip Rocks!

One of the best Canadian bands that aren't known in the States. They put out 1 great album after another 20+ years after they started.
