My little brother got me listening to RS about 2005 before she really hit it big and was still an indie darling. over the last few years shes become substantially more popular and i think that Far represents that. It still has its organic indie roots without abandoning its playful spirit or respect for emotion. y only complaint is that the album feel poorly assembled track wise, and it creates a feeling of pandering insta of trying o tell a story, creates a kind of sappy first half of the album and a much more uplift and satisfying last half. Of course, all that could have been fixd by reorganizing some of the tracks, but i suppose that all that is more personal opinion and doesnt detract from the quality of the album at all. Every track seems to be wwell thought out and approached with care. This is an easy album to listen to, but it is devoid of the more "aggresive" tracks on her earlier albums (1.99c blues, that time, chemo limo and the like), create an easier album to listen to.
Overall, this is a tremdous album, and is most likely going to be her most successful yet, but it feel like it abandones many of her older fans for a more populist message.
What does it matter if you're gay or straight when listening to music. Though she may have catchy melodies, she can't write lyrics worth a damn. They might seem cute and fresh, and have an indie feel, but there's no substance there. The pictures they paint have auspicious beginnings, but fall flat. C minus at best.
I love Regina for her ability to make strange noises. She could break and reinvent any convention in music and I am certain that the world would be a better place for it. She is not afraid to make jokes in the middle of a song, or sing a song she doesn't remember the words to. God I love her wit, wisdom and (of course) her vocal cords.
LOL i love her she has the most seductive voice her music makes me feel all good inside i listen to all her music and love all it when my sistser first started listening to her i thought it was crap and i missed alot of oppourtunites to go to her concert. Now i actually love i and regret not liking her earlier. i woul dhvae been able to see her beautiful face in a concert =D. now its too late .. =(
I'm a 21 y/o gay man who has never had relations with any female. EVER. I live in Brooklyn, NY -the city where Regina lives- and she is the ONLY woman with whom I believe I could seriously spend the rest of my life. We would have a couple of physical satisfaction issues (lol) but we would certainly live happily ever-after emotionally and spititually. I ride the subways alot and also spend hours outside in the city doing urban photography, so I am hoping that life will somehow bring our paths together at some point so that I may share with her how beautiful I find her mind and heart. Thank you for singing and sharing your BEAUTY with all of us Regina!
Really, it's a wonder that someone with so many variations in her work can still have a unique staple. Her work holds a wide variety of sounds and she more than takes advantage of this, fully exploring all the space around her. While she may have a jazzy ebb and flow to one song (ie Back of a Truck) another song by this very same artist could have a heavy revolutionary shout (ie Apres Moi). Her lyrics are both powerfully deep and yet at the same time can have a whimsical quirk to them. As well as being a stunning voacalist, Spektor has proved herself an accomplished pianist, though at times, she does experiment with other sounds, such as the drumstick on a chair in the song Poor Little Rich Boy. It is no wonder when it comes down to it... and no words truly can hold true to anything she's created, for she will always continue to surprise us.
I lovelovelove this woman's voice. And I'm really particular about singers. Her lyrics are so silly yet they mean so much. She can do amazing things with her voice, and has insane piano-pounding abilities. If you like really indie/folk singers or just random music, she does it all. From the saddest love songs to silly tunes of life's joys. Enjoy her music.
I enjoy Regina's music because it's different and branches from the norm, admittedly a bit too much sometimes. Overall, a great artist for those who love creativity. Ranging from a warm, loving sound to odd noises, Regina definitely is someone to check out.
