Melody Thornton, who is of Mexican and African-American descent, was born on September 28, 1984, in Phoenix, AZ. She started singing at a young age, developing her sweet soprano voice over the years as a backup singer before being cast into the burlesque-turned-pop group
the Pussycat Dolls in 2003. She was the only
Doll selected by attending an open casting call for the group that same year; she is also the only one without a background in dancing.
Thornton collaborated on the song "Go Too Far" with rapper
Jibbs on his 2006 debut album and is rumored to be working on a solo album of her own. ~ Corey Apar, All Music Guide
