Like their chief competition,
the Rail Band,
Les Ambassadeurs are a sponsored group who work for a bar-hotel in Bamako. Unlike
the Rail Band,
Les Ambassadeurs are far more indebted to western musical styles, and alongside the traditional pieces play a variety of rumbas, foxtrots, and European ballads. Some time after their formation, the group renamed themselves
the Ambassadeurs Internationaux before, finally, breaking up in the mid-'80s. ~ Leon Jackson, All Music Guide
