Wolfgang Voigt released several albums of more expansive music for Mille Plateaux as
Gas.
Voigt debuted the project with the Modern EP on his own Profan label in 1995, then released
Gas a year later, followed by
Zauberberg (1998),
Königsforst (1999), and
Pop (2000); in 2008, the albums were presented as the box set
Nah und Fern, released through Kompakt (another one of
Voigt's labels). In contrast to his previous work's stark austerity, the
Gas LPs presented tracks of murky ambience with even murkier percussion. [See also:
