I started listening to these albums after a long love affair of those sounds provided by the metric, an extension of Emily Haines. There is a certain symetry to way in which she is able to produce music as yet unfound in other artists, how a song can upon first listen be beautiful and energetic, yet upon further study you find this darker nature beneath. This is true in both personalities of her music, but the darker side seems more prevelant in the soft skeleton. This is perhaps due to its slow and deliberate manipulation of the melodies as opposed to the more vibrant and active tones of most provided by metric. Something like a city itself. When you visit, its beautiful, because your looking for the beautiful places, but the longer you stay, there is revealed the culture you don't see in the pamphlets, there become scars and fear, and love and hate. Finally as a resident, you come to accept these things as truth and realize the entirety of the thing, the personality and the character, is far more beautiful than just the tourist attractions, though not always pleasent. And so we have New York, Boston, and Chicago and those that live and die there. In the music world, we have metric, Emily haines and the soft skeleton and prescious few others. And sadly just as few like myself who stumble on it during a pleasent auditory journey, and decide in the end never to leave, it would be a seperation of the soul. Come for the sounds, stay for the experience. If not you are doing yourself a disservice.
