Specializing in rancheras, boleros, and corridos,
El Chapo de Sinaloa is a regional Mexican artist with a deep catalog of albums, including the Grammy Award-winning
Te Va a Gustar (2007). Born Ernesto Pérez in Badiraguato, Sinaloa, Mexico, he began his major-label recording career in the mid-'90s on EMI Latin, releasing albums including
El Chichi (1995) and
13 Toneladas (1996). Later in the decade he switched to Sony Discos for a series of albums including
Padre de Todos (1999),
Me Dicen el Rey (2000),
Que Tal Si Te Compro (2001),
Hechizo de Amor: Cien por Ciento Norteno (2002),
El #1 de Jaripeno (2002), and
Fantasia Loca (2003). During the mid-2000s, he switched labels again, moving this time to Disa for a series of albums including
La Noche Perfecta (2006),
El Jaripeo (2006),
15 Autenticos Exitos (2007),
Te Va a Gustar (2007), and
La Historia (2008). Among these Disa releases,
Te Va a Gustar was particularly successful. Not only did it win a Grammy Award for Best Banda Album in 2007; it also topped the Billboard Regional Mexican album chart. Some of
