biography

Black Stone Cherry hails from a small, rural town in south central Kentucky. According to bandmembers, none of whom were born before 1983, the lack of anything to do in their hometown, coupled with a rich musical background in their town and families, led them to start playing music. Lead vocalist and guitarist Chris Robertson met drummer John Fred Young (the son of Kentucky Headhunters forming member Richard Young) in school, and the two played music together throughout high school. In June of 2001, Black Stone Cherry officially formed with guitarist Ben Wells and bassist Jon Lawhon. The group began holding shows at old-time music clubs in the area, and after a short while, they gained a large following of people of all ages in the town. The band recorded their first album for In De Goot/Roadrunner Records, and after they returned from the recording session, Black Stone Cherry held a homecoming concert at the local high school. The self-titled debut album was released in July of 2006, followed by Folklore and Superstition in 2008. ~ Megan Frye, All Music Guide

      • These guys rock!

      • Black Stone Cherry is among the best bands to hit the hard rock scene in a long time. Their music is addictive. Their lyrics and music reache a maturity beyond the years of these incredibly talented musicians. I have not had the pleasure of seeing them in concert yet, but I hope they make it to New England (Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH...PLEASE!).

      • Amazing!

      • I had never even heard about Black Stone Cherry until I accidently stumbled upon them on youtube browsing around related videos to (believe it or not) some Death Metal bands o_o Anyway, I heard "Blind Man" and thought it was really catchy, got the latest album and its a great album. Most of the songs are great, theres not really any song you want to skip - talented guys ^^

      • BSC

      • Black Stone Cherry is an amazing band with tons of talent to go around. Every song on their albums could be a one-hit-wonder, and they have yet to write a bad song. Seeing them live is even more incredible, because you can tell they aren't up there for the benefit of themselves, they are there for the music and they are there for the fans.

Go see them live. You will not be disappointed.
