biography

Alter Bridge resurrected the music-making portion of Creed. After that band's 2004 dissolution, guitarist Mark Tremonti and drummer Scott Phillips tapped ousted bassist Brian Marshall for the new project. Ex-Mayfield Four frontman Myles Kennedy was soon on board as well, and Alter Bridge made their Wind-Up debut in August 2004 with One Day Remains. Written largely by Tremonti, the record tried to lean more toward a hard rock/metal sound than the post-grunge grandstanding of his previous group. After touring the world to support the album, the band decided to leave Wind-Up and sign with the Universal imprint Republic. In late 2007 the label released Blackbird, an album that featured more songwriting contributions from Kennedy. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide

      • Ha.

      • Sorry, but they are not broken up.
I don't know why you would spread such a horrible rumor about such an amazing band.

      • Not breaking up...

      • Just checked Alterbridge.com - latest news posted is dated 1/28 - nothing about a breakup mentioned.  Looks like they're very much still around.

Apparently eider1 doesn't know much about the background/history of this band.  The reason it took so long for Blackbird to be released is because they were under contract with Wind-Up records, & the label was pressuring Tremonti/Phillips/Marshall to reunite w/ Stapp & re-form Creed b/c they thought that it would line thier (Wind-Up's) pockets w/ cash.  Tremonti has been quoted as having said that that will not happen, and that they are very happy as Alter Bridge.  This caused a dilemma:  AB had contractural obligations to fulfill to Wind-Up, but Wind-Up didn't want to produce an album for the guys without Stapp being involved & slapping "CREED" on the cover.  So, after much fighting with their label, Alter Bridge finally cut their ties with Wind-Up & signed on with Universal Republic for the publishing & distribution of Blackbird.

After all that, why in the frickin' world would they suddenly decide to reunite with Scott Stapp?  Back in the day I liked Creed too, but Stapp can't hold a candle to Miles Kennedy as far as I'm concerned.  Stapp was little more than a pretty face with a narrow vocal range.  Miles Kennedy - that dude has some serious pipes!  He's got a much wider vocal range, plus he adds more to the band as an instrumentalist than Stapp ever did.

Whenever I try to listen to some old Creed, usually by the 3rd song I've heard enough & I end up switching over to AB.

        Kennedy > Stapp

AB > Creed.... It really is just that simple.

      • Amazing!!!

      • I really like their album Blackbird but One Day Remains is better in my opinion. Either way this band is awesome. Especially their vocals. Between their vocals and their amazing guitarist they can't be beat!!!
