biography

Huntington Beach, California's (hed) p.e. (the "pe" stands for "Planet Earth") was founded in 1994 by frontman Jahred (aka M.C.U.D., aka Jerred Shaine), whose goal was to fuse the region's long-standing punk rock heritage with G-funk-inflected hip-hop -- a sound he labeled "G-punk." Three years and a self-financed 1995 EP entitled Church of Realities later, (hed) p.e. (also comprising lead guitarist Wesstyle , rhythm guitarist Chizad, bassist Mawk, drummer B.C., and DJ Product on turntables and samples) released their eponymous debut through Jive Records, then hit the road with Ozzfest and bands like Korn, Static-X, and System of a Down. A second album, Broke, followed in the year 2000, and a third, Blackout, in 2003, after which (hed) p.e. switched labels from Jive to Koch, and underwent something of an overhaul (welcoming new guitarist Jaxon and drummer Moke) prior to recording their fourth album, 2005's Only in Amerika. The all-new Back 2 Base X and Best of (hed) Planet Earth compilation arrived in 2006, followed by Flat Bill Hat in the summer of 2007. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide

      • Underground at it's finest!

      • Take some of the dirtiest, clever ryhmes laid over a vicious drum beat and screaming guitars and you get Hed Pe. My friend introduced me to what is now one of my favorite bands. They aren't well know but once you hear them you won't forget them with lyrics like I'm the loser on the couch watching Springer getting head, Or I roll a joint and smoke it while I beef inject this ho. The earlier stuff is more Metal Rap here of late its been more punk infused. But never less you have never heard anything like them and once you hear them you'll either be a fan for life or be totally offended. Hed Pe is also onto some serious shit. I'm talking about the truth movement. Talking about the future and where humans and society is heading as well as where we've been and where we came from. You gotta check it out for yourself. There is to much writing on the wall for you to ignore the truth.

      • Back to Base (really)

      • after listening to their rediculously profane only in amerika and being disappointed in their newer punk-esq material, i was glad to discover that they've returned to their original style of music, and have mixed the better parts of their punk and rap scene in. The result is a  truly great, innovative, refreshingly different sound.

      • It's a shame...

      • It's a shame when you have to label a band "the best band you've never heard of" but (hed) p.e. is probably just that. These guys are incredibly unique in both their music and lyrics. Hopefully more people will listen to them and catch on to their music. They deserve it.

      • Great Band

      • I have listened to these guys from the beginning and will continue until they stop - they are one sick band. For all of those that are new to (hed), check out their Broke & Only In Amerika CDs - they are their best in my opinion. Enjoy listeners and stay chill (hed) p.e.!
