With their final release,
Wang Chung concentrated too heavily on the American rock radio sound, losing the fan base who liked them for their difference.
The Warmer Side of Cool does have its moments, notably the synth bass-led "Snakedance," featuring
Vinnie Colaiuta on drums; one of
Jack Hues' finest ballads, "When Love Looks Back at You"; and the title track, all of which conjure up good, melodic rock. The final stretch -- "Tall Trees in a Blue Sky" and "Big World," in particular -- is a little closer to
Wang Chung, mournful ecological eulogies with a strong chorus featuring
Toto's
Jeff Porcaro. ~ Kelvin Hayes, All Music Guide
