album review
Like any video game soundtrack, this is not the most entertaining album imaginable. It is shockingly good, though, including a ton of excellent scratching from Mixmaster Mike and a great inclusion from BT. But the best song is the remix of Run DMC's "It's Tricky," an up-tempo version that rearranges the beat and backing track while adding a Pixies sample. Coming in second is the Space Raiders' charming "Song for Dot," which has an excellent beat driven by classic rock samples and an excellent synth part. And the Rahzel/Mixmaster Mike team-up is pretty good, although it would have been nice to hear the premiere human beatbox and the premiere record scratcher battle for a minute. Otherwise, the rest of the soundtrack is passable techno music played endlessly so they will fit into the video game levels. Although it isn't a necessity, it is a lot better than expected, which is all one can ask from video game soundtracks. ~ Bradley Torreano, All Music Guide
