album review

Distributed in Europe, the Kuschelrock series is often uneven in its attempts to throw pop hits of all stripes together in one package, taking little consideration into the fact that most people don't have wildly diverse taste in music. The tenth volume features another 36 tracks spread across two discs. Most of the selections were hits between the mid-'80s and the mid-'90s, and while they're not all ballads, they favor some sort of sentimentality or bombastic earnestness. Few people could sit through the whole process; if you can, you have a very voracious appetite -- either that or you're very patient. Included: George Michael's "Father Figure," Mike + the Mechanics' "Help Me," Cat Stevens' "Father and Son," Everything but the Girl's "Missing," and Tom Petty's "Into the Great Wide Open." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
