1959: A Time to Remember is a fun and strange collection of British chart hits from the year 1959. The music is a mix of rockers like
Eddie Cochran ("C'mon Everybody"),
Fats Domino ("Be My Guest"),
Rick Nelson ("It's Late"), and
Johnny Kidd & the Pirates (the mighty "Please Don't Touch"); old-school pop like
Nat King Cole and
Gracie Fields; new-school pop like
the Fleetwoods' ("Come Softly to Me"), D Adam Faith ("What Do You Want"), and Alma Coogan ("We Got Love"); as well as the odd novelty song by the likes of
Slim Dusty ("A Pub With No Beer") and Russ Conway ("Side Saddle"). The styles don't mesh together very well, making the record kind of difficult to listen to, but as a snapshot of the year, it works. Music fans with very catholic tastes will find it quite enjoyable. ~ Tim Sendra, All Music Guide
