album review

During their heyday and long after their breakup, the Olympics found themselves being compared to the Coasters more than anyone. While they had their own sound and were far from clones, the Olympics had a lighthearted, fun approach that made comparisons to the Coasters inevitable. Those adjectives certainly describe most of the 26 songs included on All Time Greatest Hits!, one of the more comprehensive and thoughtfully assembled Olympics collections available. In retrospect, humorous songs like "Dodge City," "(I Wanna) Dance With the Teacher," "Big Chief, Little Foot" and the 1958 hit "Western Movies" sound like teenage Americana at its most innocent (though at the time, extremist church groups saw nothing innocent in this material). Another high point of this CD (released by DCC Compact Classics in 1991) is the original version of "Good Lovin'," which would become a major hit for the Rascals. Thoroughly entertaining, All Time Greatest Hits! is definitely worth acquiring. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
