album review

There have been countless budget-priced Ted Nugent collections issued over the years. And while their low price tags are quite attractive, their track listings usually are not -- ten or less tracks, with too many classics omitted. But 2003's 20-track collection Ted Nugent's Greatest comes close to getting it right. Focusing mostly on Nugent's strongest era, the mid- to late '70s, Greatest includes nearly all of Nugent's best-known tracks -- "Dog Eat Dog," "Free for All," "Cat Scratch Fever," "Just What the Doctor Ordered," and "Motor City Madhouse." Additionally, you get such often overlooked yet strong album cuts as "Hey Baby," "Stormtroopin'," and "Hammerdown." But as with most budget-priced collections, there will always be a few tracks that slip through the cracks, and Ted Nugent's Greatest is no different, as such "shoulda beens" as "Stranglehold" and the lovely "Wang Dang Sweet Poontang" are nowhere to be found. As a result, Great Gonzos!: The Best of Ted Nugent and The Ultimate Ted Nugent remain the best Nuge collections on the market. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
