I've been a fan of SY since I got the first album back in the early 80's. I always found the noise and feedback enthralling and the rhythms bewitching. I was 13 years old then and every time a new album comes out I feel like I'm a dotty-teen again, tickled in the inner ear by every note.
The Eternal is unfailing in perpetuating these emotions. If you never heard a SY album and needed an introduction - this album is as good as any to break you in. Thurston and Lee's guitars are as "sonic" as ever. Steve Shelly has never missed a beat and continues to add the punch to every line of every song. Kim's bass and vocal prowess has that entrancing tension and sex(eerie)ness that mystifies. Lyrically, I've always been partial to Lee's poetic genius and Thurston's verses is what makes him epic.
