album review

Among the most anticipated rock releases of 2009, Innocence & Instinct ratcheted up the foursome's fierce attack with vivid musical imagery and more intensely pounding sonic dissonance. The band chalked up over 500 gigs on the road following their 2006 debut, earning tour spots with the likes of Papa Roach, Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Buckcherry, Puddle of Mudd, Staind, Seether, Kutless, Disciple, Third Day, and Switchfoot. In late 2007, the band's tour van crashed into a highway guardrail at 75 mph, landing sideways across lanes. Everyone miraculously survived, but not without enduring a bloody, hellish aftermath that ultimately fed the creative force behind the new album. Also drawing upon Dante's Inferno for inspiration, Innocence & Instinct goes deep inside the soul of man to explore the duality of man. And though it may not exactly be the first album to tackle this theme, it is easily one of the most explosive, hard-hitting attempts. Once again, Michael Barnes' ferocious vocals lead the attack, still able to slip at a moment from primal screaming to a controlled snarl and back again. Lead single "Fight Inside" drives home the point that this album expresses a heavyweight clash from the inside out. Above all, you get the feeling that this isn't just noise for noise's sake; that the intensity has meaning behind it. Fans who drove Red's debut over the quarter-million mark will find this effort even more intense and unstoppable. ~ Jared Johnson, All Music Guide

      • Fresh...

      • I loved Red's first album and I have a hard time choosing between the two, as both are so close in quality to me.  I can't find a single song I don't like in this album, and it was so refreshing to finally get new songs from Red.  Their music is as good as ever.  Red is incredible with their rock and screamo, along with amazing instrumental to accompany it.  I would definitely buy this album, but I would recommend the deluxe version as it comes with some really good bonus tracks...

[Although it is hard to choose, my favorite song on this album is "Shadows"]

      • A New Level

      • I don't want to disregard Red's first album, but as a fan, I came expecting a lot. They delivered well beyond my expectations. I don't like to compare them to other bands because they are such a good independent force, and this album proves that Red is here to stay, but this album brings them to a whole new level. They have something really special with this new album and I'm excited that they came out with such a hard-hitting record towards the year's beginning. I'm expecting this to be one of the best years in music. If you're thinking about getting this album, do it. You won't regret it. I got the deluxe package from Best Buy when it was on sale but it is still worth every penny for the deluxe edition. There is no reason to miss out on this album, standard or deluxe copy. here's to many more albums.

      • Great Sophmore Album

      • This is a great band and this album proves it again. Innocence & Instinct is about the stuggle between the conflicts inside of us. Good vs. Evil. There is a lot of emotion and heart in the song that you can just feel, thats what makes them special. If you have not ordered this album or purchased it I suggest you do. You will not be dissapointed.
