Radiohead’s shot at the “experimental album” was an understated gesture and sweeping example to the world what they are capable of. Despite not having an official video or single as publicity, Kid A still took the number 1 spot in the US. As deeply reflective and melancholic as some of the songs on the album seem (How to Disappear Completely) Kid A still rocks in a different way to any other Radiohead album.
The sparse electronic landscape that is so beautifully painted by the long, winding brush strokes of creativity, perfectly complements the main ethos behind the band- Let It Out. In some ways it’s the album that Radiohead sound most at one with the music, part of music itself, and experiencing this collective mood is a privilege for the listener. You can vividly imagine “Idioteque” being played in a dark basement indie club on a Saturday night, being danced to by tall souls who have had there heart broken too many times. It’s hard to listen to the beat and the lyrics together, and this makes Kid A one of the most challenging albums of the modern age.
However, it’s “Motion Picture Soundtrack” with its sublime harp meditations and the explosion of pure innocence and beauty, which is actually comparable to your soul rising into heaven.
It’s absolutely no exaggeration, this is music to loose yourself in, and there’s not many out there that can make you feel you’re in so many places in the space of 45minutes.
One of the most interesting CDs you will ever hear, and one of Radiohead's greatest. The "bonus track" is really just the sound clip that's normally part of the end of Motion Picture Soundtrack. So don't buy it thinking your're really getting something more. Zune just blew it.
