album review

Filled with bubbling electronics and light, G-rated club anthems, Ocean Eyes sets its sights on the MySpace generation, targeting the younger siblings of those who bought the Postal Service's Give Up six years earlier. This is computerized pop music, replete with programmed drum loops, digital symphonies, and all the amenities of modern recording software. Only Adam Young's vocals carry a hint of human presence, and his fanciful lyrics -- which turn even the most mundane content (see "Dental Care," a good ol' fashioned ode to oral hygiene) into whimsy -- serve to strengthen the album's escapist appeal. Such syrupy sweetness builds to a feverish pitch throughout the album's 12 tracks, peaking during the viral sensation "Hey Seattle" and its sonic cousin, "On the Wing." Those who don't have a sweet tooth should stay away, but Ocean Eyes will serve as a tasty dessert for those who can stomach it. ~ Andrew Leahey, All Music Guide

      • A great album

      • I stumbled upon Owl City by accident and I'm glad I did. The first song I heard was "Fireflies". After listening to that song, there seems to be a reason why i would get hooked by this artist. Owl City is the reason why i finally got my first bronze badge because I couldn't stop listening. If i can explain how his songs sound like, they are refreshing fused with all these electronic sounds that have beautiful melodies. I gave his whole album a try and it was amazing. My favorite song in the entire album is "Meteor Shower" because of the piano, although it's a pretty short song.

      • A is for Awesome, and Adam

      • One of my friends suggested the song "Fireflies" to me a week or so ago. I watched the video on You Tube. I fell in love with Adam's Music. I am not a huge Techno fan, I'm more of a rocker. But when your girlfriend lives 175 miles away, songs like "Vanilla Twilight" are a great comfort. Or when I need to forget all my troubles for a time "The Bird and the Worm" is a great one to listen to. I love how Adam is such a down to earth guy. If you've ever talked to him you know what I mean. Owl City is a highly recommended band! with Ocean Eyes being a highly recommended album!

      • This stuff takes me away....

      • Serioulsy, whenever I listen to it..it just takes me away from everything and I can imagine myself someplace else entirely. Not many artists can do that, Owl City is just nothing short but amazing.
