Negative Format's second venture into electronic music, Result of a New Culture, may not be the only release of its kind. However, the blend of hard EBM-styled synths with layers of detail may be just what fills the gap in a CD collection. Result of a New Culture is another example of EBM artists finding ways to distance their sound from synth pop styles. With a layered electro sound, as harsh as NCC (who provides a remix on this release) and crossbred with a techno influence, Negative Format has a character that is driven, yet restrained. However, while subtly drifting between this hard style (such as the release's opening, "Deadlock") and a spooky bleep that can be reminiscent of acts as diverse as Suicide Commando and YelworC while sounding all its own ("Embracing Subversion"), Result of a New Culture is driven. However, sometimes it does not seem know where it is going. Each individual track has merit and more than a small hook, but overall the subtle shift in style does not convey a significant contrast. A solid listening of this release from beginning to end may seem flat. That said, Result of a New Culture still hits the mark when it comes to a clean, understated electro sound.
