Lonesome Val is quite the fetching live performer -- she just bubbles over with cuteness. On record, some of that country music cuteness does manage to shine through; however, her material is not quite as infectious on record as it is live. For those who have not seen Val in concert, the performances on NYC and her preceding self-titled album will probably be more than satisfactory. Highlights on NYC include "New York Town," "He Never Gives Up," and "Spanish Eyes." Lonesome Val's music is fine on record, but it's better live. ~ Tim Griggs, All Music Guide
