For music fans, compilation albums are often a lame way to squeeze more sales out of the same old stuff we've already heard. But there are rare exceptions to that rule. Led Zep's "Mothership" 2 CD set is one of them.
On this album, you get a good slice of classic Led Zeppelin, from the beginning to the end, remastered by Jimmy Page himself. So you get something that sounds cleaner and a little better than anything else you've previously bought.
I enjoyed cranking this up in the car all the way home the other night, so that means it's pretty good stuff.
You seriously put "Heartbreaker" on a collection WITHOUT "Living Loving Maid"???
FAIL. I like this collection otherwise- I'm glad Led Zeppelin is finally offering digital downloads. That's the great news. The bad news is there's a big gaping hole in this album and when "Heartbreaker"'s over it feels like something's missing. Because it is...
Don't get me wrong, I love Zeppelin, but i would rather just make my own playlist of the top 25 and make a couple swaps; like replacing No Quarter with The Ocean, and wheres Misty Mountain Hop?
Since this is of course Led Zeppelin and a greatest hits compilation this is of course an excellent album (especially if you are new to Zeppelin). But it goes without saying that some songs seem as if they are there unjustly. The most immediate I can see is the fact that Fool in the Rain from In Through the Outdoor is ousted out of the album by In the Evening. Others that could be replaced would be to put What is and What Should Never Be in place of Hearbreaker, and instead of The Song Remains the Same replace it with The Ocean, and The Rain Song with no quarter. And while these might just be my personal preferences if you look at the individual songs I have mentioned should be replaced do actually receive more plays than the ones currently on there. But when you are picking masterpieces from classics it is hard to discern the two and this is still an amazing albulm nonetheless.
