Early Years is a brief but adequate collection that culls eight highlights from Jan Hammer's first handful of records. There are some good moments here, but the collection could have been assembled with a little more care. Nevertheless, fans of Hammer's fusion who aren't very familiar with this music may want to use this as a launching pad to exploring his early years. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
