album review

Not exactly the Piklz' proper long-form debut, The Shiggar Fraggar Show, Vol. 1 is a live album including segments from a Bay Area pirate-radio show done with ISP-members Mixmaster Mike, Q-Bert, Shortkut, Apollo and DJ Disk. It's just a bit slow out of the gate and doesn't move with the same grace as other fine turntablist moments (like Cut Chemist and Shortkut's Live at the Future Primitive Sound Session), but the volatile scratchwork and entertaining samples keep things interesting. Once the tempo picks up, the album steams ahead with bucketfuls of old-school flavor. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
