album review

In English-language pop, it is the norm for artists to have a two-year or three-year wait (or longer) between albums. But recording schedules are different in the regional Mexican market, where it isn't uncommon for artists to come out with two or even three new albums during the course of a year -- and that includes Grupo Exterminador, which has been offering quality as well as quantity. Since joining the Fonovisa roster in 1995, Grupo Exterminador has built a sizable catalog. But the norteño outfit's devoted fans will tell you that there is always room for another Exterminador album, and Adicto a Ti ("Addicted to You") is an enjoyable, spirited addition to their catalog. Exterminador covers the norteño bases, enthusiastically providing polkas ("Un Par de Almohadas," "Vieras Cuantas Ganas Tengo"), waltzes ("El Monstruo Que Llevas Dentro," "Borracho y Desgraciado"), and, of course, corridos ("De Lengua Me Como un Taco," "La Entalladita"). Adicto a Ti isn't quite as in-your-face as some of Exterminador's other Fonovisa releases (this time, there is no "parental advisory" sticker on the front cover), but even so, the performances are lively -- and Exterminador's sense of humor (which has been a major asset in the past) is alive and well on much of Adicto a Ti. This 40-minute CD is not among Grupo Exterminador's truly essential releases, but even so, it is a solid outing that the combo's hardcore fans will welcome. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
