Despite the fact that Madacy is best known for doing shoddy compilations with cheesy artwork and less than reliable notes, with this triple-disc
George Jones comp, they've actually turned it around -- at least temporarily. There are 30 tracks here -- they would've fit on two CDs so some things stay the same -- all from
Jones' classic period recording for Epic Records as a solo artist and with his then wife, the late
Tammy Wynette. Disc one opens with "The Grand Tour," and is off and running from there: "A Picture of Me (Without You)," "These Days I Barely Get By," "He Stopped Loving Her Today," and five more are all on disc one. Disc two contains "She Thinks I Still Care," "Wine Colored Roses," "The Door," "I Always Get Lucky with You," and more. Finally, disc three contains some of the tunes he and
Wynette cut together, including "We're Puttin' It Back Together," "Golden Ring," "We're Gonna Hold On," and "(We're Not) The Jet Set." This isn't meant to imply that the rest of the music included on what amounts to a dynamite
Jones mixtape is substandard, because it's not. This may not be the definitive
Jones compilation, but it probably is the definitive
Jones on Epic. ~ Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
