album review

Like Britney Spears before her, Demi Lovato pretty much admits in the title of her sophomore album that she's serving up more of the same the second time around, but unlike Britney, that may not have been Demi's intention. For Here We Go Again, Lovato makes a relatively clean break from the Jonas Brothers, who penned much of her debut, Don't Forget, drafting sensitive AAA singer/songwriters Jon McLaughlin and John Mayer presumably to give Lovato a bit of mature veneer, a subtle shift buried underneath the relentlessly cheerful Radio Disney production and Lovato's irrepressible spunk. Both sonic characteristics tend to camouflage Demi's biggest moves away from teen pop -- the fussy balladeering of "Falling Over Me," the mock-Mraz jazz-pop "Every Time You Lie," the sober soul searching of the Mayer collaboration "World of Chances," the Celtic flair of "Gift of a Friend" -- which also happen to be the very things that make Here We Go Again not quite as much fizzy fun as Don't Forget. Not quite as much fun, but still fun, particularly when Lovato tears into hooky power pop like "Here We Go Again," "Solo," "Remember December," and the stomping "So Far So Great," the theme song to the TV show Sonny with a Chance, songs that are ideally matched to Lovato's adolescent energy and spirit, which remain her most appealing qualities. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

      • Much more mature than her 1st

      • Here we go again is a much different album than her first album. Her songs are much more varied and adult. Here we go again, the song, is probably one only a few on her album that sounds like Don't Forget (the album). Solo is catchy, not the best. U Got Nothin' on Me, I hate the beginning, but it sounds like an average Avril Lavigne or Michelle Branch song. Falling Over Me, not one of my favorites, kind of boring, but very interesting lyrics. Quiet, I really like this song goes from calm to loud in a quick moment and that really fits this songs very well. Catch Me, just like Don't Forget (song), sounds like a personal song, starts slow and gets faster, then slower again. Every Time You Lie, I absolutely love this song, sounds like Behind Enemy Lines, but there's more to the music and her voice perfectly fits this song so it sounds so much better. Got Dynamite, also one of my favorites, hardcore beat, Demi should do more of these songs. Stop the World, written with Nick Jonas, she sounds great in this song, but just sounds...average to say the most. World of Chances, written with John Mayer, I like the lyrics, another song that is average but sounds much more mature. Remember December, quick paced and sounds like a fun song, I like this song, apparently Demi likes this song too. Everything Your Not, starts slow gets faster at the chorus, I like this song and its catchy. Gift From A Friend, other than the melody that sounds Irish, this is much more mature song that almost like Two Worlds Collide. So Far So Great, I have always loved this song, fast paced great beat and finally the whole songs is available. Demi Lovato has a great voice that can be put into almost any song and makes the song sound great. I can't wait for the bonus tracks!!! She sounds great in this album, pick this one up!!!!
