Though it's not nearly as comprehensive as the 1998 best-of
Hatful of Rain,
20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection does feature
Del Amitri's biggest hits, such as "Roll to Me," "Driving With the Brakes On," and "Hatful of Rain," as well as key songs from their albums, within its dozen tracks. Despite its relative brevity, the collection does manage to fit in plenty of the band's affable, folky rock, spanning early successes like
Waking Hours' "Kiss This Thing Goodbye" and "Stone Cold Sober," as well as their later work like
Some Other Sucker's Parade's shiny, power poppy "Not Where It's At." While including some tracks off of
Can You Do Me Good? would've been nice for completeness' sake, this collection does include "Cry to Be Found," which was previously only available on
Hatful of Rain. And while that collection is still probably the definitive
Del Amitri retrospective,
20th Century Masters -- The Millennium Collection offers a wide-enough sampling of their best work to make it worthwhile for those who want only the hits. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
