While the Deftones still rely more on form than content, they have noticeably improved on their second album, Around the Fur. Their sound has hardened into a blunt, aggressive slab of metallic guitars and hammering drums, giving the album a visceral force. The Deftones tap into the same alternative metal vibe as Korn and L7, and while they don't have catchy riffs or a fully developed sound, Around the Fur suggests they're about to come into their own. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

A hidden Gem

- This album is seriously front to back a sick guitar riff lovers sweet wet dream. It starts hard and ends hard with some sprinkled subtlety throughout. Nevermind what Chino is talking about, you'll have to look up the lyrics. In my opinion, Deftones are meant to be heard and not listened to, if that makes any sense. Their sound just makes you want to bang your head and I think they'd be just as good without the lead singer. Anyway, this album is their best, with White Pony coming in a strong number two offering a lighter sound.

- This is one of my all time favourite albums. It rivals White Pony for the Deftones best. Favourite songs are Mascara and Around The Fur. Amazing album. Worth any amount of money

- personally, i find this to be their best album. it has more structure than the first but is not as whiny as the newer ones. my favorite song on the album is my own summer but of course that is my opinion and there are those who just don't like what hes trying to get across. but i love this album!
