Although it isn't an amazing album -- decent, but not amazing -- Debelah demonstrated that Debelah Morgan was an R&B singer with considerable potential. Throughout the album, it's impossible to miss the fact that Morgan (who was simply going by Debelah) had an impressive voice. Morgan is blessed with a five-octave range, and if you don't understand the technical meaning of that term, suffice it to say that she has sizable chops. Whether she's unveiling new songs or belting out gospel-influenced covers of Deniece Williams' "Free" or Rick James and Teena Marie's "Fire and Desire" (a duet with singer Kenny Harper), her voice is all over the place. Williams, in fact, is one of Morgan's main influences, and Williams' influence becomes especially evident when she hits the high notes. But as talented as Morgan is, she usually doesn't have five-star material to work with. Although enjoyable, slow burners like "Take It Easy," "Mind Trippin'" and "Floating" aren't mind-blowing. If Morgan had consistently excellent songs to record, she could deliver an album that was superb instead of simply decent. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
