The awkwardly titled Cud Band EP was the group's American label A&M's idea, introducing the group to the States by licensing a variety of tracks from the Leggy Mambo album. The focus cut was "Magic," included in both its original take, and a slightly grimier, spookier dance mix. Likely enough this was an attempt to slot Cud in with the Manchester dance scene, overlooking the band's propensity for genre-jumping and sly parody, but it's still one of Cud's best performances in either form. The other three cuts from Leggy Mambo are the jittery, quirky, "Robinson Crusoe," the tighter rock/funk groove "Now," and the post-punk, pop-boogie romp "Hey Boots," fine choices all. The full album is a much more worthy prospect, and only hyper-completists would need this EP if they have Leggy Mambo already, but as a starter kit for the group it's not a bad little release. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
