Between full-length albums,
Cloudberry Jam gave listeners this decent (if less than spectacular) EP, which ranges from the driving yet melodic alternative rock/power pop of "Hey, Baby," "Kingfisher," and "C-Song" to the
Madonna-ish pop of "Elevator." Meanwhile, "Before Time" finds the Swedish band getting into a retro-1960s type of groove. Throughout
The Art of Being Cool, lead singer Jennie Medin gives little indication that Swedish, not English, is her primary language. Like
Abba,
the Cardigans, and other Swedish acts,
Cloudberry sticks to English lyrics, which is ironic when you consider that the group was better known in Scandinavia than it was in the English-language market. Less than essential but certainly enjoyable,
The Art of Being Cool will appeal mainly to
Cloudberry's diehard fans. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
