album review

In case you didn't catch the symbolism, Chris Cornell is smashing a guitar on the cover of Scream because he's done with those six-strings -- he's leaving it all behind for Timbaland, who has long wanted to leave hip-hop and R&B behind to make a rock album. As an idea, this rock-dance fusion has some merit; clearly, Cornell needs to do something to shake himself out of his solo stupor and Timbaland is an imaginative, daring producer whose gifts are not limited by genre, although as much as they want to stretch, neither Cornell nor Timbaland is willing to leave his comfort zone here. To be fair, Timbaland's tracks are often augmented by additional production by anyone from Justin Timberlake to OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder. Whoever was directly responsible, the result sounds like skittering dance-pop, graced by Cornell's sometimes looped, sometimes manipulated caterwaul. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

      • This is what it's all about.

      • Thank you Chris for doing what you do best.  This LP is what it is all about when one is a true artist!!  Teaming up with Timbaland was just genuis.  Chris should expand his audience with this.  Chris has to have one of the best voices in the industry.  Buy this CD!!

      • New and Different. (good way!)

      • I've always been a huge fan of chris cornell and audioslave but didn't know what to expect of this album.  I was amazingly suprised, you definitely can detect the roots of both Cornell and Timbaland; its strange to hear Cornell outside of his normal tradition, but it honestly makes for an incredible and well differentiated sound.  Some may definitely not like this, too unfamiliar, but others I guarantee will love it.

      • Different but good

      • This isn't your usual Chris Cornell, and that's kinda too bad... but that doesn't change the fact that this album is still good. Amazing vocals and good catchy/funk music

      • That was different

      • If Kurt Cobain was still alive I wonder if he too would be singing electronic tracks produced by Timbaland. Don't get me wrong, some of these songs are good, but it's odd hearing them from Chris Cornell. I still prefer the Rusty Cage side of Cornell:
