A collection of twelve tracks recorded over a year and a half, Comfort Me showcases Thomas in the midst of the developed Stax sound. Backed by Booker T. and the MG's and the Mar-Key horns, Thomas turns in fine covers of Baby Washington's "Move on Drifter," and The Marvelettes' "Forever," The Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?," The Everly Brothers' "Let It Be Me," Jackie DeShannon's "What the World Needs Now," The Toys' "Lover's Concerto," and Barbara Mason's "Yes I'm Ready," coupled with a number of efforts by Thomas herself, Steve Cropper, and Eddie Floyd. The highlight is the Cropper-Floyd title cut, with utterly gorgeous backing by Gladys Knight And The Pips. ~ Rob Bowman, All Music Guide
