While they seldom blunder or even do anything questionable, Heartbeat's decision to update
Andrew Tosh's Tomato album
Original Man is mystifying. Instead of re-releasing the old album in remastered form, they've totally remixed the tracks, putting
Tosh's voice into a new musical situation with a dancehall sound that doesn't fit the lyrics. In addition, there are eight new dub tracks for an album that wasn't that scintillating the first time out. A couple of the dubs have good production, but this really isn't very moving or interesting. While
Tosh tries hard, and the song "Poverty Is a Crime" is a strong one, there isn't enough on the album to merit this deluxe repackaging and remixing job. ~ Ron Wynn, All Music Guide
