The highly anticipated release of Wires...and the Concept of Breathing has finally come today and truly packs some pow for the listeners out there.
The follow-up of the E.P. She Watched the Sky, Wires...and the Concept of Breathing has proved to be quite an album for the fresh band A Skylit Drive. After the E.P. many were taken by surprise by the bands invigorating sound.
The new album comes with a sound of several well-known post-hardcore bands today. High-ranged vocals similar to Chiodos and Sullivan, heavy growls like that of Parkway Drive, and wild riffs and drumming sequences that of Drop Dead, Gorgeous and Alesana. If you know any of these bands, then this album is sure to please you.
With the new lead singer Jag, many have listened to the album and were heavily disappointed with the outcome saying the old sound was way better. Many online have been referring to the E.P. as the "old" school ASD and that the new sound just isn't cutting it. Whether you disagree or not, those against the new sound have a valid standing. Though a new listener wouldn't notice, there is significant differences between the two's sounds.
Regardless of opinion, Wires...and the Concept of Breathing packs powerful sound with emotional lyrics. With the wide use of high, mid, and low-ranged singing, the songs will hold your attention well, especially the mid-ranged screamo and heavy (low) growling overlapped (and in tune!) in several of the songs. This album has quite a few surprises and should not be missed.
Giving this album a 3.8 of 5 possible points I would say this album is great work for a first full-length and deserves a chance. Hope this helps!
~playON
PS Do check out the bands listed above. Great stuff!
